Interschool Speech Competition

The night of the annual Interschool Speech Competition had arrived!

Over the past month, Hannah and Molly have been preparing for the competition and both girls learnt their speeches by heart - not an easy thing to do!

Finalists from St Josephs and North Street School arrived and the competition began!

Well done girls, we are really proud of you.  Double congratulations to Hannah, who won the Year 7 competition - awesome work Hannah!  The Year 8 competition was won by Gabriella from St Josephs.

Tug Of War!

This afternoon we had a mighty tug of war challenge!  We divided ourselves into four equally strong/tough teams and faced off.  After that we had Year 8's vs Year 7's and finally, a house competition.  What a lot of fun!

The technique of this team is NOT recommended!

Cross Country

Today was the day... the day we've been waiting for... the cross country!  After weeks of training, it was time for the real thing and boy were we pumped.  The weather was kind to us and gave us perfect running conditions.  Unfortunately the prickles were as prickly as ever and finding a safe route around them was a bit of a challenge!  Thank you to the parents were helped us during this event - we appreciate your support.

Room 6 - congratulations on an excellent performance today.  I was very impressed with the determination and guts you showed throughout the races - our track is pretty tough and you attacked it like pros!  I'm proud of you.

The Results:
Year 6/7 Girls -  1st: Ffion, 2nd: Natalie, 3rd=: Victoria and Olivia C.
Year 6/7 Boys -  1st: Kerry, 2nd: Jago, 3rd: Frazer.
Year 8 Girls -  1st: Elen, 2nd: Molly, 3rd: Nelly.
Year 8 Boys - 1st: Alex, 2nd Tyler, 3rd: Stefan.

Now, what you've been waiting for... the photos from the bog!  Please enjoy!

Pet Day

Today we celebrated Pet Day at Halcombe School.  It was awesome to see so many people getting involved with the different parts of the day and everyone had lots of fun.

As well as making cupcakes or muffins and displaying our rural photos, some people brought their pets - everything from lambs to dogs to chooks.

We also had an Agrikids Challenge that saw all four houses battling it out for first place.  Well done to Kauri who won this event!

Thank you to all the teachers and parents who helped make sure our day ran smoothly.  We were certainly very lucky with the weather.

Check out the photos!

Groovy 3D Box Art

Here is the art we've done this week!  It involved designing a number of geometrically abstract patterns, drawing them onto the paper, then folding and gluing the net to make a cube.  They look really effective!

Pet Day - Rural Photos

Over the past week, we have been busy taking rural photos to display on Pet Day.  While it has been a bit tricky to take photos amongst the yucky weather this week, we've all managed to get our photos taken!  Check them out:

Cross Country

With less than a week to go till the big event, we decided to have a race during training today.  We faced off against our friends and ran about the right distance that we'll run next Wednesday.  Running in this wind is HARD, so we're hoping it be long gone by next week!

Great News!

You might remember entering the Doodle 4 Google competition earlier in the year.... they received over 6000 entries....  and.... TYLER and ALEX have made it to the TOP 20!  Congratulations boys!

What does this mean?  Firstly, our school will receive a fancy printed version of their entry.  Secondly, their entries are displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website and we can vote for a winner!  They'll be up against other Year 7 & 8 students.  There is an AWESOME prize up for grabs so everyone needs to get voting!  Voting details to come soon.
