We also learnt another important rule - don't try to rescue someone caught in a rip, as this can put you in danger too. Instead, alert the lifeguards or call 111.
This diagram, from Surf Lifesaving New Zealand helped us to understand rips:
Next we moved on to learning/reviewing how to draw a labelled diagram. Here is the list we made:
Finally, we created our own labelled diagram of a rip. Here are two great examples by Madison and Olivia:
I hope this will help us at the beach!
ReplyDeleteWow Room 6, you guys have done a lot of work on keeping safe at the beach!! Hopefully if you get stuck in a tricky situation at the beach you will all be able to keep safe :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Grace, thanks for the comment! Hope you first week of high school has gone well?
DeleteHi Miss Simpson,
DeleteHigh School is so much fun, there are opportunities everywhere you step for ALL interests.
I have made heaps of new friends already in the first few weeks. I am so glad I went to Halcombe for my intermediate years because a lot of the work we are doing now is super easy, because I had great teachers who taught it all to me!! It looks like you guys are still having heaps of fun at school without me :D, have fun Room 6!!
Great to hear Grace. Keep working hard - no slacking off!
DeleteWow! That's a great diagram of a rip Olivia, way better than I could ever draw.
ReplyDeleteI think these diagrams are great. They tell you how to get out a rip if you get stuck in one.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting learning how to recognise and get out of rips.
ReplyDeleteI agree Blair. It was interesting.
