We had been waiting for this game for weeks - Halcombe Black vs Halcombe White! There was a lot of talk during the week about who would dominate... in the end it was a close match, but the Black team had more points on the board. Congratulations to both teams - it was a very entertaining match. Thank you to our coaches: Mrs Alcock, Mrs Skelton, Mrs Ferris and Mrs Langtry.

Choir
The Halcombe School choir performed two songs in assembly on Friday. With Jasmine on guitar, they sounded incredible! Thanks to Miss McCartin for whipping this group into shape. Congratulations team - you were awesome!
Gymnastics Awesomeness
We celebrated the end of gymnastics with a display for parents on Friday. After six weeks of hard work, it was awesome to 'show off' our skills in front of a massive audience! Check out the photos below of three of our most talented gymnasts!
Halcombe Fire Brigade
We had a visit from the Halcombe Fire Brigade. They talked to us about the Sky Tower Challenge, a competition they participate in each year to raise money for the New Zealand Blood and Leukaemia Foundation. This involves climbing over 1100 stairs, wearing a full fire fighting kit and 25kgs of equipment! Thanks to a generous community, the Halcombe Brigade has raised over $60,000 over the past three years - AMAZING! We also got to have an up-close look at the fire engine and some people even got to try on the gear!
On behalf of our school, Jago and Tyler made a presentation to the Fire Brigade for $500.

Red Day
Today was a special day at Halcombe School. We all dressed up in RED, raising money for the NZ Blood and Leukaemia Foundation. Everyone put a lot of thought into their costume, and we had lots of fun dancing during the parade. Congratulations to the Student Council for organising and running yet another awesome event. We raised $167! Whoop whoop!

Halcombe School Quiz
The Halcombe School Quiz was held last night, and was a wonderful success. Thank you to all those involved in the organisation and running of such an awesome event! After 100 questions, two teams were tied for first place! One of the teams was full of parents of students in Room 6! The tie-breaker question was:

South Makirikiri Winter Sport Exchange
Today was the day we had been waiting for. Luckily the weather was on our side this time around, and we were very excited as we boarded the bus to Marton. Unfortunately, the results did not go our way - for more in-depth match reports, please read our student blogs. Thank you to the parents who came along to watch. See you next year South Mak!
Mural
We've started work on the first of four murals for our school. Today, Madison and Tammy took a turn at doing some painting!

Monday Night Netball
We've had a team entered in the Intermediate Netball Competition held in Palmerston North, since the beginning of last term. We had lots of great wins during the first part of the season, but things have been more challenging since we moved up a grade recently. With only two games left, the netball season is almost over. We've had lots of fun and hope we play well in our final matches. Check out the action shots from last night's game against Monrad:

Tree Art
When sport was cancelled yesterday afternoon, we did 'arts and crafts' instead! Using our wonderful tree-trunk drawing skills, we sketched out the trunk of a tree, placed it on a hill in the foreground of the picture, then used up all Miss Simpson's coloured paper off-cuts to make the leaves!

Photography Project
Earlier this week, we did some photography. First we talked about how to take a great photo. Here is the list of 'rules' we came up with:
After taking a series of photos (thanks to the Junior Team for letting us borrow their ipads), we then experimented with several different photo editing sites. It was fun to experiment with the different effects!
