Te Reo Kori

Today we had our final session of Te Reo Kori, before we start Large Ball Skills next week.  We've had an awesome time improving our skills in rakau, poi, poi rakau and mau rakau.  You can read our individual reflections on our blogs.

Today we also had the chance to try our jumping-over-the-stick moves!  Check it out!

Writing Collaboration

Last term, we sent copies of some of our writing to the senior class (Room 3) at Weber School, near Dannevirke.  We asked them to take a look at our writing, and provide us with some feedback.  Today, our writing was returned!  It was very exciting to open the envelope and take a look.  There were lots of positive comments and useful tips for how to improve our writing.  The students in Room 3 had also attached a photo, as well as a wee bit of information about themselves.  We LOVED reading this part! Thanks Room 3!

Wheels Day

We were very relieved that we had a break in the weather today - facing ANOTHER day with no wheels would have been torture!  There were around 170 'wheels', and the Student Council did a fabulous job of keeping everyone safe and on track.  What a great day!

Here is the movie that Jack and Jensen made about Wheels Day:

The Senior Team:

Rock It Boards

Miss Simpson won this cool prize - five Rock It Boards!  If you see them out in the playground, feel free to have a go!  There are loads of different things you can do!

Pirate Ships

Over the past three weeks, we've been working in groups to create these AMAZING pirate ships!  We studied different ship designs, before creating our own.  The colouring took ages, because we were being fussy - we wanted them to look awesome.  And they do!

Dance

In the past, Room 6 students have had heaps of fun making dance movies - it's time to start thinking of ideas for the 2016 version!

Pirate Swords

Today we made pirate swords!  Working with our buddy class, we studied different types of swords, before sketching them on large pieces of cardboard.  Then we had to cut them out.  Next we will have to paint them!

It was all action in Tech again today, with the sewing group making bags, the food group making cookies, the woodwork people making puzzles and the ICT groups making comic strips and animations.  Good times!

Assembly

Our class hosted the first assembly of 2016 last week - Hamish, Alyssa and Emma were wonderful hosts.  We performed our rakau routine, and despite not having much practice time, we did really well!

Tech Starts!

We were all super excited to start our Tech programme, which will run for 20 weeks during Terms 2 and 3.  Our four activities are: hard materials (woodwork), food technology (cooking and baking), soft materials (sewing), and ICT extension.  We're looking forward to learning loads of new skills and having lots of fun!

The ICT Group had some fun developing art using online sites - check it out:

Te Reo Kori

Our PE focus for the next few weeks is on Te Reo Kori - the girls will be developing their poi skills, and boys their mau rakau skills.  We'll all be practicing rakau and learning how to play poi rakau.  It should be heaps of fun.  Today we had our first poi rakau session!

Our Oceans

We started Term 2 with a hiss and a roar today!  We're going to be learning all about our oceans; pirates, myths and legends, shipwrecks, amazing places, and explorers.  Our first activity was to identify and locate the five oceans, as well as some of the more well known seas around the world.  We enjoyed using the atlases and writing information on our own maps.
