Disney Nature - Oceans

As an introduction to our new Inquiry Unit (how can we protect our marine environment?), we watched this INCREDIBLE movie.  Produced by Disney Nature, it was all about our oceans and the weird and wonderful creatures that live there.  After watching the movie, we completed a 'Quick Write', where we had to list a particular part that blew our minds!

My favourite part was the dugong acting like a vacuum on the ocean floors.  It looks like it’s part elephant and part fish.  BETHANY

An amazing moment was when the group of fish dodge the dolphins, birds, and whales.  The fish dodge them as a group and all at the same time.  BLAIR

An amazing moment for me was when the humpback whales rounded up and ate the school of fish. It was amazing, because I’ve never seen such big creatures working together.  CODY

Watching the turtles hatch was awesome, but it was sad when all the birds were swooping down to get them. Usually, only one turtle survives out of a 1000.  DANIELLE

A blue whale weighs 120 tonnes, Wow! That’s big. Also it is the biggest mammal in the world.  DARIAN

The Spanish Dancer fish are amazing because of the way they move. The colours of the Spanish Dancer are very unique.  FFION

An amazing moment for me was when the great white shark was hunting for the sea lions. It was an extreme moment for the sea lions as they tried to get away.  HANNAH

An interesting moment was learning that around 1 out of 1000 baby turtles survive. When the turtles hatch from their eggs on the beach, they have to scurry in to the water before they get eaten by a bird.  JADE

One of the most amazing moments for me was watching the waves. The power in them was shocking. Quite a few times it showed clips of wave smashing against rocks and every time I was awed.  JAGO

I really enjoyed the scene when the lobster crab attacked the intruder. I thought that it was funny, because the first time it tried to attack, it failed, but the next time the lobster tried, he killed the trespasser!  JASMINE

The crab war was amazing, there were thousands of them! First they clashed then they toppled over one another. It was total mayhem.  JED

I was amazed to learn about the sea dragon, a master of disguise. The sea dragon looks like a piece of coral, so it could be a fish hideout. I never knew that the sea dragon was real or that it existed.  JORDAN

I loved the amazing look of the Spanish Dancer fish and the way it glides through the water. My first thought was that it looked like a scarf drifting in the sea.  JORJA

One thing that really amazed me was the sea horses. The sea horses were amazing because they can camouflage into the coral and everything on the sea floor. Another reason they’re amazing is that they can be really weird shapes.  KYLE

Watching the black-backed gulls diving for the tiny turtles was amazing. It was incredible to see the turtles crawl out of the sand and then all these birds appear out of nowhere and start dive bombing all the teeny tiny turtles.  LOGAN

An amazing moment was when there was a massive group of fish and they all swam together and formed something like an underwater tornado.  LUKE

I thought the rock fish was fascinating because it can disguise itself as a rock and blend in with the reefs. MADISON

It’s so amazing that there is such a creature as the Leafy Sea Dragon.  They blend in so well to hide from predators or to hunt for food. It looks a bit creepy with all the leafy things all over its body though.  OLIVIA

Watching the humpback whales all come up out of the water and gasp for air at the same time was awesome. I also liked the colours of the humpback whales and the sounds that they made.  QUAID

The most amazing moment was when the great white shark went after the seal, because of the technique of the shark, and the speed that it hit the seal.  It was incredible. I was also amazed by the seal’s ability to wriggle away from the jaws of the shark.  SOPHIE

The dolphins and seagulls were all going for the fish at the same time. It was amazing to see how the dolphins pushed the fish up near the seagulls, and then they boxed in the fish for the dolphins to get from below and eat as well. The way they all worked together was amazing and really surprising too.  TAMMY

When the great white shark came shooting out of the water I froze. It was amazing to see a 5-6 metre long shark dive out of the water and attempt to kill that seal.  VICTORIA
