2014 - DONE!

Logo Design by FlamingText.com

Our school year is almost finished, and what a year it has been!  Best wishes to all Room 6 students for both the holidays, and 2015.  A special good luck to our Year 8's, who are off to high school next year.  Work hard, make lots of new friends, be good and have lots of fun!

Movie Day

Just a nice quiet day in Room 6 today!

Madison has set another school record, this time for a rod tower!  Her tower beat the old record by about 10cm.  Well done Madison!

Y8 Leavers Dinner

The Year 8 students enjoyed a special end-of-year treat today - a meal at Essence Cafe in Feilding.  This was sponsored by our school PTA to thank the Year 8 students for the contribution they have made to Halcombe School.  The kai was delicious!  Thank you PTA!

Athletics Fun Day

Athletics Day was a massive success today!  We started off by competing in loads of fun challenges and relays - check out the photos of the obstacle course below.  Following this we had the final of the 100m for the athletic champs, raced in 75m and 100m races, had the 400m and finished with the house relays!  Phew, what a day!  Congratulations to all those who performed well - which was everyone!

Camp Sketches

The task was to sketch one scene or special moment from camp.  Everyone did a great job!  Have a look at these wonderful examples:

Nearly There!

I wonder who will make our 2000th comment?

Cricket

Today we had a cricket coaching session with Tim, from Manawatu Cricket.  The session was short and sweet, but he covered the main teaching points for catching and batting.  We all received a free gear bag too!  Thanks Tim!

High Jump

Many people would like to improve their skill and confidence in high jump.  This is something we'll work on as a class.  In the meantime, don't panic.  As long as you don't do what the poor lady in the video below does, you'll be fine!

Evidence

Yes, Miss Simpson did have a (little) swim at camp - so did all the other parents!  They were a very tough and brave lot to swim in the icy waters of Nydia Bay!  #evidenceforlisa

Word Clouds

Cody made a word cloud about spotlight - a very popular camp activity!

Jasmine and Blair both made word clouds about the fun we had at camp around the jetty:

Athletics

Today we started our athletics programme, and launched straight into high jump!  Even though we were a bit rusty and out of practice, it didn't take long for our skills to return.

Disco Time!

Castlepoint

Miss Simpson has had an awesome week away at Castlepoint with Room 5. Following this camp, there is an important announcement:

The new Halcombe School Rock Tower Record is... 23.  Congratulations Tyler and Jensen!  This beats the previous record of 15, which was built during the Room 6 camp to Turangi last year.  Will anyone be able to beat this new record?

Check out this cool video too - it will remind some of you of your sand duning experience at Castlepoint in 2012!  Sand.  Everywhere.

Flippaball Update

Flippaball is all finished for another year!  We had two teams in the local competition, and we've had great fun playing against other schools each week.  Thank you to our coaches; Mrs Alcock, Mrs Skelton, Mrs Ferris and Mrs Langtry.  Congratulations to both teams - you did good!  Check out the message below from Adie, the flippaball organiser:

Hiya Guys

Congratulations to all teams that participated in flippaball this year!  The placeholders for 2014 are as follows:

1st place – Colyton 1
2nd Equal – Halcombe Black
2nd Equal – Feilding Intermediate 1
3rd Place – Halcombe White

I will be sending out the certificates next week.  Unfortunately for the teams in second place, we are awaiting your placeholder ribbons so these will follow at a later date.

Thanks again for all your efforts in Flippaball this year.

Cheers
Adie

Pet Day

What a massively awesome pet day we had today!  We had all kinds of animals - everything from lambs to calves to horses to rabbits to roosters to cats to dogs!  Lots of people from our class brought their pets along.  We also put a big effort into our indoor exhibits, and these looked really cool too. You can read our blogs to find out more!

Preparing for the Country Kids Interhouse Challenge!

The Year 8 students divided up into their house groups and competed in the Country Kids Challenge.  This was a series of tasks that tested their physical and mental strength, as well as their ability to work as a team.  Well done Rimu - the winners!  Thank you to Mrs Simpson for organising this awesome event.

Classroom Visitors

Last night the PTA visited all the classrooms in our school.  Check out this cool message they left us:

Cross Country

Well, what an 'interesting' cross country we had this year... Just as we were about to leave school, it started to pour with rain!  After waiting awhile to see if the weather was going to clear, we decided to have an adapted cross country event at school.  We knew it wasn't going to be ideal, but it would be better than nothing!  The rain didn't let up and we all got soaked!  We eventually got to run our race - 6 laps of the field (about 2km).  Congratulations to all of you - Miss Simpson did not hear one single complaint!  You did very well in difficult circumstances.  Well done to those who achieved a placing:

Year 6/7 Girls:
1st:  Ffion
2nd:  Greer
3rd:  Emma

Year 6/7 Boys:
1st:  Cameron
2nd:  Tyler
3rd:  Jed

Year 8 Girls:
1st:  Olivia
2nd:  Jasmine
3rd:  Victoria

Year 8 Boys:
1st:  Jago
2nd:  Reuben
3rd:  Quaid

Not many photos today - sorry team!

Great Response

We've had lots of comments today - we are definitely on track for 2000 comments by the end of 2014!  Thank you and keep up the great work!

Thinkers Keys

We've been working on some creative thinking tasks this week - we are getting really good at coming up with original, creative, outside-the-box ideas for all sorts of problems.  You can have a look at our work on our blogs.  The work below are examples that Miss Simpson thought were particularly cool!

Animation Time

Check out this cool animation that Jasmine and Tammy made today:

Blog Comments

This week Miss Simpson noticed that we have received nearly 2000 comments on our class blog - AMAZING!  This doesn't even count the hundreds of comments we've received on our individual student blogs.  Thank you to those parents who leave us comments every now and then, it is much appreciated.  Will we get to 2000 by the end of the year?  Come on team - let's do it!

Rural Photos For Pet Day

Here is a sneak peak at the pictures we've taken for the Rural Photo competition.  This is one of our class exhibits for Pet Day being held next week.  Check it out!

Young Achievers

We are pleased and proud to announce that Jago and Jasmine are our 2014 Young Achievers.  They will attend a special ceremony being held in Feilding next week.  Congratulations!

Jasmine is role model of excellent character, with a fun-loving personality.  Her positive attitude allows her to relate well to all.  Jasmine is always willing to share her talents and abilities to help others.

Jago fully involves himself in all school activities, both sporting and academic, making him a true all-rounder.  He is organised, mature, has an excellent attitude and maintains very high standards in all areas.
