Maori Art

We studied the different designs commonly found in maori art and carvings and focused on kape rua, mango pare, pitau and koru patterns.  Our task was to incorporate all four of these into our work.  Feel free to call in to our classroom and check out our work, it looks awesome on the wall!

  1. WOW! What a stunning display of the Maori designs you've been checking out. Did you use a template as a base? These look brilliant.

  2. Hi Whaea Jane
Thanks for the comment! We drew three hills in front, and three tucked in behind them. The sun in the sky has sunrays. The 'rules' were that you had to draw a different design/pattern in each space. We used black vivid to colour a combination of the positive and negative space. This art took ages because we've been so busy, but we're pretty proud of the finished product!
    Thanks,
    Miss Simpson

    1. Hi Miss Bates
Thanks for the comment. We did this art back in March so it feels like a distant memory now!
